77 civilians killed in Burundi unrest, says rights activist

BUJUMBURA, Burundi — At least 77 civilians have been killed in clashes with Burundi's security forces since the start of anti-government protests in April, a rights activist said Friday.
Another 1,000 people have been arrested and dozens of prisoners tortured, Pierre Claver Mbonimpa, head of the Association for the Protection of Human Rights and Detained Persons, told The Associated Press.
