Breakthrough as Eala okays Zziwa ouster

>A motion to remove the Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala), Ms Margaret Nantongo Zziwa, flopped yesterday after two legislators from Tanzania  withdrew their signatures.

The former Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala), Ms Margaret Zziwa, who was ousted in December last year following a string of allegations against her by fellow MPs, can now go ahead to challenge her removal in court without seeking leave of the assembly.

The East African Court of Justice yesterday declined to stop the impeachment of the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) Speaker, Ms Margaret Nantongo Zziwa.

On May 21, 2012, Margaret Nantongo Zziwa defeated more than 15 people to get a second term at the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala). She was not done though. She would go ahead to defeat Dora Byamukama who was widely believed to be the NRM party candidate to become the regional parliament’s first woman Speaker.
