Burundi peace talks halted after opposition figure murdered

The leader of a small Burundian opposition party has been shot dead in the capital Bujumbura, witnesses say.

Kigali, Tuesday. The UN-led Burundi peace talks were thrown into further disarray Tuesday when the ruling CNDD-FDD party and the opposition UPRONA announced their withdrawal.

The Minister of Defence, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, has announced that dialogue on the Burundi peace pact will resume on December 28.

Negotiations to end violence in Burundi kicked off yesterday at Entebbe State House with four former Burundian presidents attending the talks mediated by President Museveni.

The Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations in New York and also the Chair of the Burundi Configuration of the UN Peace building Commission, Amb. Paul R.
