The bodies of 18 mainly West African migrants have been found in the Sahara desert in Niger, having lost their way in a sandstorm, the IOM says.

Footage has emerged showing a sandstorm in Gao, Mali, where an Algerian passenger plane carrying 116 people disappeared on Thursday.

Residents of Ntondo Village in Lindi Region have called for government intervention in their dispute with Pack, a mining company they suspect of smuggling out of the country tonnes of sand believed to contain minerals.
