Cultural envoy Komba's exit before polls big blow to CCM

In a newspaper column in February 1993 Prof Issa Shivji wrote about the role of “mental workers” in the ruling party CCM. The party was in a process of transformation in the face of a changing socio-economic situation. The early 1990s was a period when not only Tanzania had been obliged to embrace multi-party politics but had to also reduce the state’s stronghold on the economy and open doors for foreign investments.
