 A late night exchange of gunfire between a Metropolitan Police Department officer and a man in a Dupont Circle neighborhood left the man dead of a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting death about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Caroline Street NW were not immediately clear.
