DEAR DIARY: The beautiful island of Mauritius
>I was in Mauritius last week, and I must say; it is paradise. I have heard so much about Mauritius, but trust me, it looks much better in real life. Photographs do not do justice to the place - the fresh air, the white sand, the food, the people, the beach, the palm trees, the flowers.

DEAR DIARY: It’s not goodbye but see you later
>Leaving on a Jet plane is a song by John Denver, but most people will identify it with its first line All my bags are packed I’m ready to go. My mother loved this song and she hummed it every morning under the bougainvillaea tree as she took a nap. Sooner or later her demise hit us like thunder on a sunny day.

DEAR DIARY: Get tested before marriage
>To test or not to test, that is the question. Going for an HIV test can be a very frightening experience; the flash backs about questionable encounters, the crippling self-doubt and even mistrust of your partner can run through your mind.

DEAR DIARY: The future is not as I envisioned
>It is amazing that we only have 32 days to 2015. I often smile to the thought that I am in the future. 2015 is a big year, no doubt. It is the year that governments have placed deadlines to different development goals. It is the year that we will have our general election; it is a year of many changes indeed. Look at yourself; this is how the future looks like.

DEAR DIARY: Where is the respect for women?
>It was just last week when I wrote about street harassment. I talked about two videos I had seen, one was of a male journalist in Egypt who disguised himself as a woman. He experienced physical and verbal abuse.

DEAR DIARY: Tuti, until we meet again
>Tutindaga Anania Mwambungu was my friend. We weren’t the kind that spent all weekends together, or chat over the phone every now and then. We only shared brief moments when she was alive.

DEAR DIARY: Good looks will get you votes
>Women vote for good looking men. Don’t we? Before you protest, hold it, hold it ladies… We don’t have to look very far to test the theory. Our dear President is a good example. If you voted for JK, how many of you would say that his looks didn’t cross your mind at all when you were voting? Be truthful now.

DEAR DIARY: Is it diversity, or self-expression?
>I added a weave on my head last week, and it always amazes me how one small change on your body can make a huge difference on your looks – negative or positive. I was particularly intrigued about what the salonist had to say about the new weave in town.
