EDITORIAL: Check crooked co-op officials

>Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue has urged permanent secretaries in different ministries who will fail to correct deficiencies raised by the Controller and Auditor General (CAG) to voluntarily resign.

>The General Election is just around the corner, so it is no wonder campaigns are already underway despite the warning by supreme organs of political parties that everybody should wait for the whistle before anyone starts canvassing for votes.   The polls are slated for October, so there are only eight months to go before Tanzanians pick who they want for councillor, MP and president.

>Despite criticism and even condemnation from educational psychologists, the practice of giving the so-called pre-Form 1 or pre-Form 5 training continues to thrive.

Too many youths with poor grades might be readily admitted to university, more so in the private ones, so long as their parents would be able to pay the fees.

Tanzania is determined to become a middle income economy by 2015, if we are to go by declarations, not only from politicians—who we normally take with a pinch of salt—but also from policymakers.

We are fast approaching October 25 when the Tanzanian electorate will speak with their voter card and elect leaders at the civic, parliamentary and the presidential levels. These will be men and women in whose hands we shall place our destiny, at least for the next five years. Maligned as politicians generally, these are important people, for to all intents and purposes, they will be our rulers.

Tanzania envisages becoming a middle income economy by 2025. That is only 10 years away, yet the reality on the ground shows that being a middle class society will remain a mere dream much later than 2025.
