Too many youths with poor grades might be readily admitted to university, more so in the private ones, so long as their parents would be able to pay the fees.

Virtually all Tanzanian children of school-going age get a place in primary school. There is at least one secondary school in every ward, so almost every child who makes the grade gets admitted to Form One.

According to the National Examination Council (NECTA), of the 40,753 who sat their A-Levels last May, 38,853 passed, which is equivalent to 98.87 per cent.
