Health officers have campaigned for years against smoking, with mixed results. In developed countries, tough laws and stringent regulations have restricted smoking. The hazards of smoking are conspicuously printed on cigarette packs. And tobacco firms have spent huge sums of money settling legal cases brought by victims.
