Govt lunches cholera campaign

Health ministry warned yesterday that the entire city is now facing a public health threat following the outbreak of cholera. Seven people have died in less than two weeks and at least 230 others are hospitalised due to the waterborne disease.

The government yesterday banned the selling of food on the streets of Dar es Salaam as part of its efforts to contain the cholera outbreak that has so far killed at least four people in the city.

As time ticks towards October 25 when Tanzanians will elect their new government, it seems like many things have stopped and the country is fully engrossed in election campaigns. Where things are going, even in the private sector, they are going slowly.

Tanzania has received much needed help in its fight against cholera through the donation of  building products and construction materials and 1,000 tap filters for clean water.
