Govt not doing enough to end albino killings

>President Jakaya Kikwete has expressed shock over the fresh wave of killings of people with albinism in the country, saying this barbaric cruelty, which has also given Tanzania a bad image, cannot be tolerated. In his first remarks since the renewed wave of attacks on albinos, which has subjected Tanzania to global condemnation, President Kikwete sought to absolve the government from blame, saying past efforts by his administration had stamped out the vice.

Albino killings have become so rampant over the past couple of years, but in recent months the issue of albino killings has ascended to the category of a prominent problem in the country prompting various activists, politicians and the general public to react to the this bulging problem

Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete pledges to end the killings of albinos, which he says has brought shame on the East African nation.

>The killing of people with albinism, ostensibly for their body parts, is a crime so heinous that we must do all we can to bring it to an end. It is disturbing that there is an air of desperation around this subject, with more lamenting than working out a plan of action to save these precious lives.

>Albino killings, lack of accountability, laziness and other crimes and unacceptable behaviours can only end once more Tanzanians engage in scientific thinking rather than being superstitious.
