President Jakaya Kikwete will officiate at the ground-breaking ceremony for the much-anticipated standard gauge railway line in the next two weeks, Transport minister Samuel Sitta said yesterday.

The official launch of a $7.6 billion (Sh15 trillion) standard gauge railway line will now take place in the next six weeks, BusinessWeek has learnt.

President Jakaya Kikwete will on September 15, 2015 lay down the foundation stone for the much-anticipated construction of a standard gauge central railway line amid uncertainties over availability of funds to run the mega project.

>The government has begun conducting feasibility studies on costs and benefits of investing in rail infrastructure, to provide potential private investors with a guideline to attract them to invest in extension of railway network in Dar es Salaam and the central corridor.
