The ruling party’s presidential aspirants have vowed to end corruption should they get a chance to lead the nation. Virtually all have identified themselves as true followers of the Founding Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. They claim they will end corruption. Still others have promised to form a special tribunal to handle all cases related to corruption.

The CCM presidential primary contest leading to the 2005 General Election was nasty. Corruption was so rampant that you could say that money talked loud and clear. Behind the scenes campaigning was also intense as much as it was rogue. There were plenty of allegations of dirty tricks. A section of the media was used to defame and assassinate the character of other candidates. The campaigns of some of the main contestants were waylaid by rivals, campaign cash stolen.
