Inflation up in October on food, beverage prices

Tanzania’s annual headline inflation rate decreased to 5.9 per cent in October 2014, from 6.6 per cent recorded in September as the speed of food prices went down during the month, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Tanzania’s annual headline inflation decreased to 4 per cent in January from 4.8 per cent recorded in December pushed by a decrease of oil prices.

>Tanzania annual inflation rate increased further to 6.7 per cent in August compared to 6.5 per cent recorded in July pushed by high speed of price increase experienced in non-food items, the National Bureau of Statistics announced yesterday.

Tanzania inflation rate has declined to 6.1 per cent in September 2015 compared with 6.4 per cent recorded in August, indicating a slower speed in the consumer price increase.

Tanzania’s annual headline inflation rate decreased to 6.4 per cent in June 2014, from 6.5 per cent recorded in May as the speed of food prices went down during the month, the National Bureau of Statistics has announced.

World food prices rose in the first quarter of the year for the first time since their all-time high in August 2012, driven by rising demand in China, drought in the United States and unrest in Ukraine.

>Residents here have complained against the increase in food prices in many areas ahead of end of the year festive season where prices of staple food doubled a week before Christmas.

A special committee has been formed to probe the recent hiking of prices of essential foodstuffs in Arusha, leading to complaints from members of the public.
