Kagame attacks ‘other nations’ over third term bid criticism

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has signalled that he will stand for re-election for a third term. Mr Kagame in a state of the nation address said Rwandans want “politics of delivering” and “you cannot put term limits on progress.”

Kigali. Several Rwandans thronged Parliament in Kigali Monday with petitions packaged in baskets and gift boxes, demanding that the two-term limit be erased from the Constitution to allow president Paul Kagame stand for re-election.

Rwanda has remained silent on the diplomatic row with South Africa that resulted in expulsion of diplomats of both countries. South Africa defended its decision to expel three Rwandan diplomats, who were linked to the assassination attempt on the Rwandan dissident, Lt Gen Kayumba Nyamwasa in South Africa recently.

>The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) yesterday denied criticism levelled against it last week by Rwanda President Paul Kagame and said the remarks were inappropriate.
