Lending set to go mobile: BoT

Dar es Salaam. Despite the fact that agriculture is Tanzania’s economic mainstay, its financing is still a challenge with recent data showing that commercial banks are reducing their loans to the sector.

A novel plan to use mobile phones to boost extension services in agriculture is being developed under a Norwegian-funded programme at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (Sua), it was revealed here at the weekend.
