On the eve of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss city of Davos on Wednesday, Oxfam released startling data indicating that the world’s richest 85 people--who could comfortably fit in a double-decker bus--have accumulated as much wealth between them as half the world’s population.

26 athletes for C’Wealth Games

For donkey’s years now, countries have relied on traditional, hackneyed measures of wealth. Most-favoured is the gross domestic product (GDP). Least Developed/Developing Countries (LD/DCs) --Tanzania NOT excepted -- are virtual slaves to this norm, shackled to it as adherents of multilateral institutions like the IMF and the World Bank.
