Lowassa: My promise on election campaigns

In exactly 131 days from today, we will be heading to the polls to exercise our constitutional right – electing councilors, legislators and more importantly, our fifth president since we attained independence 54 years ago.

CCM presidential candidate John Magufuli has promised to solve problems faced by artisanal miners in the country.

The Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT-Wazalendo) promises sweeping changes in economic, social and political management if elected to power in the October 25 General Election.

Like in 2010, media played a key role in this year’s General Election. Actually, media crucial role in elections started with 2005 General Election. Many believed that media propelled President Jakaya Kikwete to victory.

There are many other business environment issues that politicians should address in the needed issues-based campaigns. They include but not limited to the general policy, legal and regulatory frameworks, socialist mentality and hang-over among some government officials, ready-to occupy business premises, land problem, markets, standards as well as many local business climate issues at constituent and ward levels. All these have to be understood and addressed by politicians in campaigns.
