Magufuli’s Cabinet leanest in 20yrs, 7 JK ministers back

Finally, with a sigh of relief, President John Pombe Magufuli has named his cabinet, which he says, when finalised it will have 34-strong members to lead the country for the next five years, of course, on his prerogative.

Tanzanians have widely hailed President John Magufuli’s Cabinet announced yesterday as well-thought and cost-saving, while some saw it as lacking in a balanced sharing of posts between Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. Political analysts, politicians and economists who spoke with The Citizen said they expected more efficiency in the new Cabinet which is a half that of former President Jakaya Kikwete.

President John Magufuli’s decision to downsize his cabinet has been praised by private sector business operators, who say it is a good move aimed at trimming unnecessary expenditure.

Some ministers may be in trouble after President John Magufuli labels them “wapumbavu” (idiots) over the dillydallying in installing oil flow meters at Dar and Tanga ports.
