More die as cholera effects spread in districts in Tanga

Health ministry warned yesterday that the entire city is now facing a public health threat following the outbreak of cholera. Seven people have died in less than two weeks and at least 230 others are hospitalised due to the waterborne disease.

At least nine people have died of cholera in Musoma Rural District, Mara Region, it has been revealed.

Ongoing heavy rain experienced in coastal and southern regions has hit Tanga Region, thus damaging roads and houses in three districts.

>Seventeen Burundian refugees being accommodated in Kigoma Region have died from an outbreak of cholera and several others appear to be trapped in a health crisis arising from poor sanitation in the temporary camps.

 Head of the health department at Handeni District Hospital Credianus Mgimba said the infected persons died between Friday and Saturday and were from Segera, Kwamnele, Kwengoma, Kwamatuku and Ndolwa.
