MPs want 2016 polls extended

Uganda's presidential campaign season opened Monday ahead of a vote due February 2016 pitting the country's veteran leader against a longtime challenger and a sacked prime minister.

 The new female MPs from different political parties will join the usual suspects such as the ruling CCM’s Jenista Mhagama representing Peramiho constituency in Ruvuma Region and Chadema’s Halima Mdee representing Kawe constituency in Dar es Salaam Region.

The political heat generated by the perceived contest between Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and President Museveni for the NRM party flag bearer in the 2016 presidential race has now spread up-country.

>The ruling NRM party legislators have vowed to go to their constituencies to “market” President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidature and “highlight” the party achievements ahead of the 2016 general elections.
