To close out the 17th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival, some of Africa’s musical legends will be performing whilst top filmmakers from around the world are awarded for their work.

Monday was a special day at ZIFF 2015, with a unique and memorable day of film and music in perfect harmony.

 In response to a rising groundswell of requests and recognizing the role and place ZIFF has in developing the film and creative industries in Tanzania and east Africa ZIFF has today announced the ZIFF East African Music Video Awards Competition. The Awards are managed in collaboration with Push Mobile Media Limited.

The Award aims to highlight the link between film and music as well as support the growing music video production industry in the region.

The Zanzibar International Film Festival is proud to announce the 16 films in competition for the Sembene Ousmane Film Prize in 2015. The selected film hail from 11 Countries: USA, Brazil, Senegal, Madagascar, Ghana, Cameroon, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia and Tanzania.

The Zanzibar International Film Festival 2014 is host to more than film screenings. The 8 day line-up also includes nightly musical performances, visual art exhibitions and more. The focus on Swahili arts & culture is an important element of the festival, especially in light of the historical lack of Swahili art exhibitions.
