Namibia president wins $5m award

Hosts Namibia begin their African Women Championship campaign with victory over Zambia as Nigeria overcome Ivory Coast.

President Jakaya Kikwete has been named “Icon of Democracy Award” winner for 2014 in Africa, it was announced yesterday. The award is given by The Voice Magazine Achievers Award committee on behalf of ‘The Voice’ magazine published in the Netherlands. 

The US embassy yesterday awarded Ms Joyce Stephano Nyembe the 2014 Woman of Courage award in recognition of her courage and perseverance in championing the rights of women and people living with HIV and Aids in Tanzania.

‘Dogo Masai’ a Tanzanian film directed by Timoth Conrad, a Tanzanian film director, Producer and writer, has won three awards at the California Viewers’ Choice Awards in the US.
