Dar es Salaam City is under attack of a viral fever – the dengue, which is also known as break bone – that painful, debilitating mosquito-borne disease. The virus that causes it is related to those that lead to West Nile infection and yellow fever.

 President Jakaya Kikwete has directed Health and Finance ministries to urgently order sufficient medical kits for screening dengue and distribute them to health facilities countrywide.

Over 370 people have been diagnosed with dengue fever since the start of the year, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
