It is now clear that the eagerly awaited debate among presidential aspirants will not be taking place as anticipated. The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) is likely to announce tomorrow the shelving of the debate that would have added to the fledgling multi-party democracy in the country. This is all thanks to political parties for their failure to meet the deadline for submitting written confirmation of the participation of respective candidates.

Leading presidential candidates Dr John Magufuli of CCM and Edward Lowassa of Chadema did not participate in a debate with other political parties’ contenders for the post as had been widely expected.
