A fallout of sorts within CCM, the oldest political party in the country, started in Dodoma on July 11. It was some few minutes after midnight. The central committee had just finished a crucial meeting that was supposed to come up with five names out of 38 presidential aspirants.

It is now clear that the eagerly awaited debate among presidential aspirants will not be taking place as anticipated. The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) is likely to announce tomorrow the shelving of the debate that would have added to the fledgling multi-party democracy in the country.
