Relief as further cuts in fuel prices announced

>Local consumers will pay Sh187 less on every litre of petrol they purchase as the regulator cuts the charges in response to declining global prices. In a move that should trigger a drop in prices--or at least demand for cuts in charges for products and services linked with petroleum as fuel--the Energy and Water Regulatory Authority (Ewura) capped the price for petrol at Sh1,768 per litre in Dar es Salaam.

Tanzanians will get a relief today when they wake up to find out that fuel prices have gone down as the regulator cuts them down. That is in response to declining global prices and a stabilising local currency.

Oil prices have decreased. The fall follows changes in the world market.It has been difficult for petrol users in the last three months as its price escalated.

 Motorists will have to pay more this month following an increase in fuel prices.

>In normal circumstances, the price of fuel would have fallen in the past few years in response to trends on the world market. That has not been the case, though.

This year has started with relief to fuel consumers as the regulator announced lower prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene through January.

Even though there hasn’t been a public uproar over fuel prices in the country recently, statistics gathered by The Citizen on Saturday from the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) reveal a steady pump price increase over the past one year.

Tanzania’s economy will save over Sh232 million daily for a one month starting today as the energy regulator braved political machinations to cut pump prices for petroleum products in response to declining global prices.
