Rwanda vote on Kagame 3rd term for December 18

Rwanda’s parliament was set to open a debate Monday on amending the constitution to let strongman and President Paul Kagame run for a third term in 2017.

The United States on Tuesday condemned a vote by Rwandan lawmakers to approve a change to their constitution to allow President Paul Kagame to serve a third term.

Rwandans are voting in a referendum on a constitutional amendment that would allow President Paul Kagame to potentially remain in power until 2034.

Kagame has run Rwanda since his ethnic Tutsi rebel army, RPF ended the 1994 genocide
