Sino-tanzania ties, now 50, should be nurtured

Tanzania and China yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between them.

>Businesspeople, banking with Ecobank Tanzania Limited (ETZ), will now be able to transact directly with their Chinese counterparts without the involvement of a third party, thanks to a new initiative launched in Dar es Salaam earlier this week.

>President Jakaya Kikwete’s October 2014 visit to Asia and China in particular involved, among other things, the signing of a number of multi-million dollar business deals, including those in transport infrastructure and real estate. This happened about one and a half years after the March 2013 visit to Tanzania by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
