South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has ordered all government troops to cease fighting rebel forces as part of a peace agreement, his spokesman said, ahead of a full ceasefire on Saturday.

Fighting is spreading in parts of South Sudan, leaving hundreds of people dead, after a reported coup attempt at the weekend.

Close to 100,000 people have been displaced by renewed fighting in South Sudan's Unity state in the last week, the United Nations warns.
