State lawyers prepare defense against vote guarding petition

Chadema presidential candidate Edward Lowassa yesterday added his voice to the vote guarding controversy, telling thousands of his supporters in Mbeya City to ensure they hang around the polling stations after casting their ballot to ensure their victory is not stolen.

State lawyers yesterday asked for more time to file a defence against a petition seeking a declaration that voters are allowed to stay at least 200 metres from polling stations after casting their ballots on election day on Sunday.

State lawyers yes­terday asked the High Court to dis­miss a petition seeking a declaration that voters are allowed to stay at least 200 metres from a polling station after casting their ballots in Sunday’s General Election.
