It is now three weeks since Zanzibaris went to the polls. The elections were meant to put in place in a new government. But, that is yet to happen and by each passing day, hope keeps fading. To say the least, it is as if the electorate have been cheated.

Finally, with a sigh of relief, President John Pombe Magufuli has named his cabinet, which he says, when finalised it will have 34-strong members to lead the country for the next five years, of course, on his prerogative.

It is now known to everyone that Tanzania has been denied development support by the United States of America through its organisation, the Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC), to the tune of $427 million.

Early this week a group of hooded vigilantes masquerading in day light invaded a private radio station – Coconut FM – located in Zanzibar Town in an excuse of defending a government minister over a debate that was carried by the radio.

We are now in the third month of the political crisis in Zanzibar. Talks are going at the Zanzibar State House looking for solution and we are told to be patient and things are going to come out for the interest of Zanzibaris.

Germans have had very interesting relations with Zanzibar. They were here on commercial terms and with counsellor representation before Berlin Conference and occupation of Tanganyika. Almost all their explorers took off for the interior Africa using Zanzibar as their launch pad and least one forget the issue of Heligoland Island that put the two sides on international level when the Sultanate was in control of the whole East African Coastal strip.
