Tanzania to get Sh541bn AfDB funding for transport projects

>Tanzania has submitted projects worth more than Sh1.4 trillion to the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (Badea) for possible funding.

The government seeks to mobilise funds from both local and international sources so as to improve the central transport corridor -- especially by expanding Dar es Salaam Port and revamping the central railway line.

The private sector support is needed to finance road projects (and maintenance) because traditional approach of financing them through the government budget is not sustainable, according to deputy minister for Works Gerson Lwenge.
