Progress in African governance has hit a plateau, while more than a third of African countries are backsliding, an annual index measuring key development factors showed on Monday.

 Tanzania’s hope to achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Four on the reduction of child deaths now faces a daunting task with new reports showing the country is retreating.

Tanzania’s GDP has grown significantly over the last 11 years, improving prospects for development across the country. Yet despite these strides, this economic growth is not being seen as successfully converted into quality of life improvements as it could be.
