The numbers behind the world's sexual violence problem

Imagine witnessing a member of your family taken from your home by armed men and raped, or sold into sexual slavery, or imprisoned and tortured sexually. Imagine that happening to tens of thousands of other women, men and children in your country, for years on end, and living in that dangerous and traumatic environment.

At least 150 people died in South Sudan when a crashed oil tanker exploded as a crowd scooped up spilled fuel, reports said Friday.Senior local official John Ezkia told South Sudan’s Eye Radio that the initial death toll of more than 85 in Wednesday’s explosion had risen to at least 150, after scores died of burns.

The medical charity MSF says 240 of its staff have been forced to flee into the bush in South Sudan to try to escape fighting.

Among those killed in the fighting is an aid worker from Médecins Sans Frontières.
