The Crisis was also known as the ‘Tripartite Aggression.’ This was because it was an invasion of Egypt in late 1956 by Israel – followed by Britain and France – with the dual objectives of ousting Egypt President Abdel-Nasser, and regain ‘Western control’ of the Canal from Egypt.
