WINNING LEADERSHIP : Have the courage to say ‘No’ to an opportunity

I hope this email finds you well. I am an ardent reader of your articles on business daily and they encourage me a lot and I love them.

Many of us are hypocrites. We claim to want many things until we get to know exactly what it will take for us to acquire them. Not you, right? Well, you remember George from the accounts department who wanted to get fit until he accompanied you to a workout session.

What is that position you so covet?  Never mind that commandment    for now, we are way past that already - you can dash into the  confession booth right after this.

Many of us are hypocrites. We claim to want many things until we get to know exactly what it will take for us to acquire them. Not you, right? Well you remember George from the accounts department who wanted to get fit until he accompanied you to a workout session.

In his best selling book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill wrote, “You will never have a definite purpose in life; you will never have self-confidence; you will never have initiative and leadership unless you first create these qualities in your imagination and see yourself in possession of them.” He went on to say that, “... imagination is the most marvelous, miraculous, inconceivably powerful force the world has ever known.”

She said no one would marry me.  Women don’t do that.  We only prepare it, ensure it is tender, we salt it with bean ash and cow’s urine – the urine of a lactating cow is best.  We only taste the soup to ensure that it is tasty.   Even then, we don’t swallow the soup that we taste.  We spit it out.

“I want be my own person” is a very common desire. I truly believe that sometimes people just say they want that which they don’t have but on the slightest possibility that it could come to be, they shy away. I am not going to give you that tired “you are your own enemy” line. Well, not today.

It is not by chance that you are reading this article today. I strongly sense that you are in some way brought here because of a situation in your personal and professional life.

I received requests to share some thoughts on dealing with what a reader termed a “bad” day. No specifics of the “bad” were given. To begin with, there is no such thing as a “bad” day. Nothing is good or bad. It is what we relate it to that makes it either. This is the immutable universal law of relativity. Also know that by the law of rhythm, however difficult whatever it is you’re dealing with is, it too shall come to pass. Tough times do not last...
