Ziff: Creative minds win hearts

To close out the 17th edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival, some of Africa’s musical legends will be performing whilst top filmmakers from around the world are awarded for their work.

 In response to a rising groundswell of requests and recognizing the role and place ZIFF has in developing the film and creative industries in Tanzania and east Africa ZIFF has today announced the ZIFF East African Music Video Awards Competition. The Awards are managed in collaboration with Push Mobile Media Limited.

The Award aims to highlight the link between film and music as well as support the growing music video production industry in the region.

Sentiment in emerging markets was one of the key topics for finance leaders at the IMF spring meetings in Washington DC – but slower growth in parts of Asia and political discord in some emerging economies should not be allowed to obscure the strong economic potential of these markets.

There seems to be a wave of rising African storytellers in the fiction genre. Names such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, NoViolet Bulawayo are known all around the world for their current storytelling through fiction. But there is a genre that many haven’t well explored and perhaps one that is used by most writers without knowing the right techniques – creative non-fiction.

There is a general agreement amongst most Tanzanians that currently, the country needs changes; changes that would steer it to new levels of development, with the most talked about area that needs transformation, according to the “analysts”, being the country’s top leadership.
