80 nations to end secrecy in banks

The finance ministers of around 50 countries meet in Berlin on Wednesday to sign a deal they hope will put an end to banking secrecy and aid the worldwide fight against tax fraud and evasion.

Last Tuesday’s armed robbery at Barclays Bank in Kinondoni in Dar es Salaam, raises serious questions about our security situation. Armed robberies are increasingly being reported countrywide.

Process shrouded in secrecy

One of the more salutary decisions of the 19th meeting of the National Assembly this year was its ‘passing’ of the 2014 Tax Administration Bill. Hopefully, the danged thing receives soonest the presidential assent it needs to give it the force of law!

It is hard to push the growth of e-commerce in Africa especially when the key element, which is internet access, is still a problem. There are many factors holding back the development of e-commerce and online business in Africa including the need a much more developed financial infrastructure.
