Burundi capital’s overnight gun battle kills four people

At least eight people have died in shootings in Burundi's capital Bujumbura, an administrator has said, the latest in a series of attacks to hit the city since a disputed presidential election.

An overnight inferno killed nine people early Thursday at Buguruni Malapa in the city, neighbours confirmed.

Horrified residents awoke Saturday to at least 39 dead bodies scattered in the streets of the Burundi capital, Bujumbura, a day after coordinated armed assaults on three military installations.

A police officer here has shot and killed his colleague before he turned the gun and shot himself dead.
