Call for agro-sector funding
Less than three per cent of funds requested annually for agriculture and livestock sectors in East Africa are availed by the governments, according to a recent report on the constraints affecting the twin sectors.

Agro-sector can produce more
Agriculture is the mainstay of Tanzania’s economy whereby between 70 and 80 per cent of its population depends on the sector which is not only the backbone of the national economy but also a survival tool for majority of its citizens.

Concern over sluggish growth of backbone sector funding
Efforts by the government to improve the agricultural sector, which is the country’s backbone of the economy, statistics from the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) show that the growth of the sector is sluggish. One of the reasons for poor growth of the sector is lack of support from commercial banks.
