Dar’s new supermarket to produce own power

>Uchumi supermarket has acquired a store in Tanzania as part of its aggressive expansion plan in that market. Chief executive Jonathan Ciano said the acquisition of the outlet from Dar es Salaam-based Sifamart Supermarkets was concluded last week in a deal financed by debt.

Tanzania is among nine African nations set to benefit from the European Union’s new rural electrification programme using hydro, wind, solar and biomass, with Euro 95 million set aside for the projects.

>The state power utility firm, Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (Tanseco), is planning to connect about half a million new customers in Dar es Salaam alone, thanks to a number of new projects that are nearing completion.
