Doctors team up to save twins

>The decline of indoor sports, especially netball, raises questions as to where Tanzania veered off the road. We are no longer assured of participating in the Nations Cup and the World Cup qualifiers, the most important tournaments when it comes to development of the sport.

>The once-conjoined twins, Eliud and Elikana, who were separated in India last December are now walking. Speaking to The Citizen over the phone yesterday, the father of the twins, Erick Mwakyusa could not hide his excitement.

It was supposed to be the “happily ever after” story of the year, but little Eliud—one half of the conjoined twins who were separated in an operation last year in India—appears to be in serious trouble, with his colon now spilling out of his stomach. He has to use a colostomy bag to collect the waste from his body.

 It was all smiles for Mr Erick Mwakyusa and Ms Grace Rwesha, parents of twins Eliud and Elikana when they received donations of Sh664,000 from Good Samaritans.

Eliud is in his mother’s arms suckling, enjoying the freedom of being held in her arms, all alone. He turns when he hears his twin-brother Elikana baby-talking. Elikana who is sitting on the bed talks louder when his brother turns.

The very fact that one-time conjoined twins Eliud and Elikana are alive and well is a miracle. But life is rarely straightforward and simple and the misery has been quietly piling on again.

The time and setting had to be three decades of exhilarating fun; the rocking sixties, the rolling seventies and the swinging eighties.
