DR Congo attacks Hutu rebels

United Nations, Saturday. The United Nations Security Council on Friday issued a fresh warning to Rwandan ethnic Hutu rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo to surrender or face possible military action.

A few weeks after President Kikwete announced to the international community that Tanzania was ready for military offensive to neutralise Hutu rebels in eastern Congo, European Union Foreign Affairs Council on Monday called for immediate action to that end.

Washington, Wednesday. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo “owes it to its people” to end the threat posed by Rwandan Hutu rebels hiding in its eastern provinces, the outgoing US special envoy said Tuesday.
