UN urges Rwandan ethnic Hutu rebels in DR Congo to surrender

Washington, Wednesday. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo “owes it to its people” to end the threat posed by Rwandan Hutu rebels hiding in its eastern provinces, the outgoing US special envoy said Tuesday.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo launches an offensive against Rwandan Hutu rebels in the east of the country.

A few weeks after President Kikwete announced to the international community that Tanzania was ready for military offensive to neutralise Hutu rebels in eastern Congo, European Union Foreign Affairs Council on Monday called for immediate action to that end.
