Eala monitors implementation of Single Customs Territory in TZ

The envisaged single customs territory (SCT) is likely to fare badly, cargo clearing and forwarding agents say.

Tanzania is still poorly prepared to start implementing the Single Customs Territory (SCT) plan next month.

The single customs territory is the full attainment of the customs union through the removal of trade restrictions including the minimisation of internal border controls. It is about achieving free circulation of goods in the customs territory in order to reduce the cost of doing business.

The Customs Territory, a trilateral arrangement by Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, will be harmonised within the wider East African Community (EAC) Single Customs Territory, it was observed here at the weekend.
