EDITORIAL: Crude politics must not be allowed in Tanzania

>It is inexcusable that, a little over two decades after Tanzania re-introduced multi-party democracy, some people  are mixing up issues of a purely political nature with those that are linked with particular parties. It is unacceptable because, a good 22 years after  we bid single-party rule farewell, no mature person can sincerely claim to be ignorant of the distinction.

>Some people nurse the comical belief that, when they sneeze, any mild physical discomfort bothering them vanishes.

>Claims by a Constituent Assembly (CA) member that the CA has become a rubber stamp that is likely to endorse a proposed constitution aimed at propping up one political party and its ideals made interesting reading.

With the General Election approaching fast, the national focus is not only on political parties and the candidates, but also on the conduct of the key bodies overseeing this vital national exercise.

>The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has reversed its position on the referendum and is now saying it can organise the exercise to accept or reject the proposed new Constitution in April next year.

>As the excitement over the entry into the new year is wearing off, political excitement is gathering momentum in the form of  the race to State House. Against its backdrop is the fact that, in compliance with constitutional requirements, President Jakaya Kikwete  is nearing the end of his second and final term.

The health sector is currently in a serious crisis. Not that it had been that much good in the recent past, not since people started hearing of cost-sharing which,in some cases meant getting a free prescription and advice from the doctor on where you could buy the drugs.
