GOING GREEN: Why govt needs private equity

The Mkoba Private Equity Fund, which was recently launched by President Jakaya Kikwete, has been described as a true economic boost meant to support development and growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The government is all set to partner with the private sector in major infrastructure projects. Transport Minister Samuel Sitta told Parliament yesterday that working with the private sector was the only way to go if the government wanted to achieve its long-held dream of putting up major infrastructure projects.

Since last year, the government has shown great desire to have some direct control over tuition rates for private education. Earlier this month, a circular was issued instructing private schools not to increase school fees for the 2016 academic year until they receive further instructions from the Commissioner of Education. While the reasons for such control might be noble, this initiative is seriously misguided.
