The current session of the Constituency Assembly (CA) is in a stalemate and ought to be scrapped to pave the way for national debate on the structure of the union that will then be followed by a referendum to give an opportunity to the people of Tanzania to decide once and for all what structure of the union they would want in the next 50 to 100 years.

Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about the growing size of the national debt and the ability to pay back the loans.  What is often lacking from this discussion is the issue of the distribution of the costs and benefits of borrowing.

Members of Parliament are today expected to wind up the debate on the 2014/15 national Budget estimates ready for the Finance minister, Ms Saada Mkuya Salum, and her deputies, Mr Adam Malima, and Mr Mwigulu Nchemba, to respond to their concerns.

No doubt issues about the Union structure have overshadowed the whole agenda on constitution making. Before and after the commencement of the Constituent Assembly (CA), various analysts have been talking and writing a lot on the Union structure and forget other fundamental elements contained in the same Draft Constitution.
